Thunderstorms to hit 32 provinces, Bangkok faces 40% rainfall

Weather forecasts indicate thunderstorms across 32 provinces today, with Bangkok expected to experience rainfall covering 40% of the area. The Meteorological Department of Thailand (TMD) warns of potential dangers, with sea waves exceeding 1 metre in some regions.

The TMD forecasted the weather for the next 24 hours with a moderate southwesterly monsoon currently affecting the Andaman Sea, Thailand, and the Gulf of Thailand but is gradually weakening.

Although this will lead to a reduction in overall rainfall, thunderstorms are still expected in some areas. A low-pressure system over northern Vietnam is causing heavy rainfall in Thailand’s upper north and northeastern regions. Residents in these areas are advised to be cautious of potential dangers associated with heavy rain.

Moderate waves, approximately 1 metre high, are expected in the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand. Areas experiencing thunderstorms may see waves exceeding one metre. Mariners are advised to avoid navigating in these stormy areas.

The northern region will experience thunderstorms covering 40% of the area, with heavy rain expected in Chiang Rai, Phayao, and Nan provinces. Temperatures will range from 24 to 27 degrees Celsius at the lowest and 33 to 37°C at the highest. Southwesterly winds will blow at speeds of 10 to 15 kilometres per hour.

In the northeastern region, thunderstorms will also cover 40% of the area, with heavy rain expected in Nong Khai, Bueng Kan, Udon Thani, Sakon Nakhon, Nakhon Phanom, and Ubon Ratchathani provinces. Temperatures will range from 24 to 25°C at the lowest and 33 to 35°C at the highest. Winds from the southwest will blow at speeds of 10 to 20kp/h.

Moderate chance of rain

The central region will see thunderstorms covering 40% of the area, predominantly in Nakhon Sawan, Uthai Thani, Lop Buri, Saraburi, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya, Kanchanaburi, Ratchaburi, Nakhon Pathom, and Samut Sakhon provinces. Temperatures will range from 24 to 26°C at the lowest and 35 to 37°C at the highest. Southwesterly winds will blow at speeds of 10 to 20kp/h.

In the eastern region, thunderstorms are expected to cover 40% of the area, primarily in Sa Kaeo, Nakhon Nayok, Chon Buri, Rayong, Chanthaburi, and Trat provinces. Temperatures will range from 25 to 28°C at the lowest and 31 to 35°C at the highest. Southwesterly winds will blow at speeds of 15 to 30kp/h, with sea waves approximately 1 metre high and exceeding 1 metre in thunderstorm areas.

The southern region (eastern coast) will have thunderstorms covering 30% of the area, mainly in Phetchaburi, Songkhla, Pattani, Yala, and Narathiwat provinces. Temperatures will range from 23 to 26°C at the lowest and 33 to 36°C at the highest. Southwesterly winds will blow at speeds of 15 to 30kp/h, with sea waves approximately 1 metre high and exceeding 1 metre in thunderstorm areas.

The southern region (western coast) will also see thunderstorms covering 30% of the area, primarily in Trang and Satun provinces. Temperatures will range from 23 to 26°C at the lowest and 32 to 34°C at the highest. Southwesterly winds will blow at speeds of 15 to 30kp/h, with sea waves approximately 1 metre high and exceeding 1 metre in thunderstorm areas.

Bangkok and surrounding areas will experience thunderstorms covering 40% of the area. Temperatures will range from 26 to 28°C at the lowest and 33 to 36°C at the highest. Southwesterly winds will blow at speeds of 10 to 20kp/h.

Residents are advised to stay informed and take necessary precautions against the potential dangers of heavy rain and thunderstorms in their areas. Mariners should exercise caution and avoid sailing in regions affected by thunderstorms.
