Wire we in the dark? Heist leaves Phuket underpass powerless
In a shocking turn of events, brazen thieves have plunged the bustling Darasamut Underpass into chaos, swiping electrical wires from the control room and causing a temporary power outage earlier today. The sneaky heist came to light when a worker from the Phuket Highways Office alerted Wichit Police to the power failure striking the tunnel around 7.40am, today, September 30.
Upon investigating the scene, the police discovered that the outage was the result of stolen wires from a nearby control room. Without wasting a moment, Wichit Police, flanked by forensic experts, rushed to the site just before midday to tackle the emerging crisis. Amidst the chaos, investigators unearthed a discarded helmet and flashlight, now key pieces of evidence that might shine a light on the culprits.
Wichit Police Chief Chatree Chueakaew assured the public that the investigation is in full swing, as officers tirelessly work to nab the rascals responsible for the theft.
“Our team is examining the evidence collected and reviewing any available CCTV footage to piece together the events leading up to the theft.”
The power outage wreaked havoc on the morning commute, bringing traffic in the Darasamut Underpass to a grinding halt and causing major inconvenience for drivers. Thankfully, the Phuket Highways Office managed to restore power, allowing normal service to resume.
This audacious theft underscores the persistent problem of theft and vandalism targeting vital public infrastructure, raising alarm bells about the effectiveness of current security measures.
The police are urgently appealing to anyone with information about the theft to come forward, added Chatree.
“We are taking this matter very seriously and urge the public to report any suspicious activity they may have witnessed around the underpass.”
As police forge ahead with their investigation, the community remains on high alert, eager for a swift resolution to prevent further disruptions and bolster the security of public assets in the region.
