Investment ties strengthened: Parnpree’s mobile meeting proposal for Thai-Vietnam relations
Parnpree Bahiddha-Nukara, the Foreign Affairs Minister, yesterday proposed the reinstatement of mobile meetings to bolster investment ties between Thailand and Vietnam. The proposal came about during a meeting with Pham Minh Chinh, the Prime Minister of Vietnam, concluding Parnpree’s two-day official visit to the neighbouring nation.
The visit, which kicked off on October 25, marked Parnpree’s inaugural official trip since assuming the dual roles of deputy prime minister and foreign affairs minister earlier this year.
The journey is also symbolic as it represents the Thai government’s first formal visit celebrating a decade of strategic cooperative partnership with Vietnam.
The focal point of Parnpree’s dialogue centred around enhancing diplomatic investment ties and cooperation in diverse sectors such as economics, trade, and tourism. The discussion also touched upon regional cooperation, particularly within the ASEAN region and the Greater Mekong Subregion.
The diplomatic rapport between Thailand and Vietnam spans several years and is likely to yield a substantial return on investments, projected to hit US$25 billion by 2025, Parnpree revealed.
The revival of mobile meetings, scheduled to commence next year, was another significant topic of discussion. These meetings are expected to cover a broad range of subjects, including international policies under the New Momentum concept advocated by the Communist Party of Vietnam and geopolitics, given the strategic position both nations hold within ASEAN.
Parnpree expressed his intention to relay the concept to PM Srettha. He also shared with Pham the recommendations from Thai investors about investing in Vietnam. These suggestions were gathered during his visit to the Thai Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Vietnam in Hanoi the previous day reported Bangkok Post.
In addition to these activities, Parnpree made a courtesy visit to ThaiCham at the Royal Thai Embassy in Hanoi to disseminate the government’s policy agenda.
