In light of the recent earthquake in Japan, Panpry Phahitthanukul, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, confirmed that there are no reports of Thai people injured or killed. Panpry expressed concern and support for the Japanese government and its people through a message on X (formerly Twitter) today.

There is, however, a stern warning for Thai people in the area to stay vigilant and constantly follow Japanese news regarding the situation. In case of emergencies, they can contact the Thai Embassy in Tokyo via the hotline number +8190-4435-7812.

The Thai embassy in Tokyo reported that there have been no Thai casualties from the incident so far. But, Panpry advises Thai nationals in the area to take care and be cautious of the situation, by keeping up-to-date with official Japanese news.

The earthquake also triggered a 3-metre high tsunami in the northern part of Hyogo Prefecture and a 1-metre tsunami in Kyoto Prefecture. Despite these events, there are still no reports of any Thai people being affected. Kansai International Airport has not announced any flight changes, and only some of the JR West train lines in the Kansai region have been suspended or delayed, reports Khaosod.

The death toll in Japan has risen to 30 due to the earthquake, with more than 140 aftershocks reported. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, reporting from the Consulate-General in Osaka, warns of the possibility of further aftershocks.

The severity of the earthquake and the subsequent tsunamis serve as a stark reminder of the potential dangers of natural disasters. The deputy prime minister’s message of support and concern underlines the global solidarity in the face of such events, while his emphasis on the safety of Thai nationals illuminates the importance of vigilance and preparedness in disaster-prone areas.

In related news, Japan braces for severe earthquakes, warns meteorological agency.
