Ten days of rainfall predicted in Thailand with temperature fluctuations

The Thailand Meteorological Department (TMD) predicted rainfall for the next 10 days, from January 22 to 31. The TMD anticipate thunderstorms in the northern, central and upper northeastern regions, with a temperature rise expected. The forecast was updated today, January 22, from the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF).

From January 22 to 26, a moderate to strong mass of cold air will spread over the northeast and the South China Sea, which will result in a southerly wind and a south-easterly wind bringing moisture from the Gulf of Thailand. This will cover the lower central region, the eastern region, Bangkok and its vicinity, and the upper southern region. The weather forecast for the next seven days, from January 23 to 27, suggests that Thailand will experience thunderstorms and a temperature decrease of 1-4 degrees Celsius.

At an upper level (700hPa: 3 kilometres), a westerly wind will blow across the northern region and the upper northeastern region, resulting in occasional rainfall. The temperature in the northeastern region is expected to decrease by 3-5 degrees Celsius.

In Bangkok and its vicinity, the temperature will decrease slightly (1-2 degrees Celsius). The southern region will see an increase in rainfall, with heavy rainfall in certain areas of the lower southern region. Wind waves will intensify after January 23.

Between January 24 and 26, the cold air mass will weaken, and the wind will also weaken and become variable. There will be a southerly wind and a south-easterly wind blowing across the country. At the 700 hPa level, the edge of the westerly wind will continue to blow over the upper part of Thailand, resulting in occasional rain/thunderstorms in the northern, central and upper northeastern regions. The temperature will rise, and the cloud cover will increase.

Between January 29 and 31, the forecast predicts rainfall. However, this information could change depending on new data and weather phenomena associated with a strong El Nino, which could alter the condition of cold air, rain and storms. This forecast should be used to aid decision-making, reported KhaoSod.
