Teenager killed after being struck by car in Lopburi

A tragic accident claimed the life of a 15 year old boy who was struck by a vehicle while attempting to cross a road in Lopburi yesterday, February 17. The incident occurred on Phahon Yothin Road, near Wat Khao Wong Phra Chan in the Mueang subdistrict of Khok Samrong district.

Police Major Piyap Rung Huaphai, an investigator at Khok Samrong Police Station, received a report of the accident, which involved a pedestrian being hit by a car at kilometre marker 179-180.

The young teenager, Thawatchai Sangkanak, was hit by a white Toyota pickup truck with the licence plate กค5820 from Sing Buri. Emergency services, including a doctor from Khok Samrong Hospital and the Khok Samrong Rescue Association, arrived on the scene.

Sadly, Thawatchai was found lifeless in the road, still clutching a 50 baht note in his hand, amidst the cries of distressed family members.

Eyewitnesses and an examination of the site revealed that Thawatchai had been attempting to cross the road to get a haircut when the accident occurred.

He was scaling a barrier in the middle of the road when he failed to notice the oncoming pickup truck, which was unable to stop or swerve in time, resulting in the fatal collision.

The driver of the pickup truck has been detained by the police and taken to Khok Samrong Police Station for further investigation. Thawatchai’s body has been returned to his family for funeral rites, reported KhaoSod.

In similar news, a foreign motorcyclist is on the run after fleeing Thailand following a high-speed collision with a Thai pedestrian in Phuket, leaving the victim in critical condition.

Footage of the shocking incident, shared by The Phuket Times on February 1, shows the victim crossing the road when a speeding motorcycle ploughs into him, sending both crashing to the ground.

The rider, identified as a foreign national, quickly scrambled to his motorcycle and attempted to flee. A witness tried to intervene but the motorcyclist persisted, allegedly attempting to ride over the injured pedestrian to escape.
