Locals in Loei province recently witnessed a funeral unlike any other. Charnathip Inthrawichai, a 58 year old photographer and a well-known figure in the province, had passed away from cancer.

His final rites, held April 20 to 22 at Wat Sri Suthawas (Wat Loei Long) in the municipal area of Loei, broke away from traditional sombre proceedings, reflecting his vibrant spirit and love for life.

Before his death, Charnathip made a significant decision to donate his body to medical science. Furthermore, he requested that money collected during his funeral, after expenses, be donated to various causes close to his heart.

These included the Phu Kradueng National Park, the wildlife sanctuary at Phu Luang (Phu Ruea), the conservation forests of Hiri Rak and Phu Bo Bit, the Loei Hospital, and Wat Loei Long

In line with his wishes, mourners were instructed to forgo the customary black or white attire and to refrain from expressions of grief. Instead, attendees were encouraged to celebrate Charnathip’s life with smiles on their faces.

The deceased was a photographer who had captured the stunning views and tourist spots of Loei province, contributing to local travel books and journals. Known for his love of camping at these picturesque locations, Charnathip had a wide circle of friends and acquaintances who came to pay their respects.

On the final day of the funeral, Charnathip’s family brought the vehicle he used for camping trips to the crematorium. They set up a campsite complete with a tent, tables, and chairs next to the cremation area for friends and family to gather.

In a heartfelt tribute, a friend of the deceased played guitar and sang songs that Charnathip had enjoyed, adding a unique and lively atmosphere to the event.

Among the attendees was the famous director Tom Yuthalert, a friend of the departed, who also joined in the celebration of Charnathip’s life, reported KhaoSod.

The funeral of Charnathip Inthrawichai was a testament to the life he lived—a life full of passion, creativity, and a deep connection to nature and his community. His final message was clear: to remember him with joy and to continue his legacy of generosity and love for the environment.

His memory will live on not only through the stunning photographs he took but also through the charitable acts he inspired, ensuring that his spirit will continue to enrich the province of Loei and beyond.
