Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin affirmed yesterday the critical role of enhanced ASEAN connectivity in unlocking the region’s full potential and boosting its collective competitiveness. The 62 year old Thai PM revealed this perspective during a virtual gathering for the ASEAN Future Forum 2024, which focused on the theme Towards Fast and Sustainable Growth of a People-Centred ASEAN Community.
“Our emphasis must be on strengthening our efforts in advancing seamless connectivity for trade and investment, along with digital, supply chain, and energy infrastructures.
“Such a strategy will enable ASEAN to establish itself as a pivotal economic hub within the Indo-Pacific region.”
The Bangkok-born prime minister stressed the importance of a sustainable ASEAN for the region’s long-term economic growth and the improved lifestyle of its residents. He highlighted the necessity for ASEAN to persistently work towards a green economy, energy transition, and carbon neutrality.
“As the ASEAN coordinator for sustainable development cooperation, Thailand is determined to continue nurturing cooperation towards these goals.”
He also underscored that a united and resilient ASEAN is of utmost significance for the region in managing geopolitical and geoeconomic uncertainties and overcoming regional and global challenges.
“Maintaining unity and demonstrating ASEAN centrality is the only way we can preserve its relevance in this rapidly evolving world.”
PM Srettha also expressed Thailand’s commitment to realising an inclusive ASEAN community that reflects the goals and aspirations of its people, reported Bangkok Post.
“I am confident that ASEAN will continue to grow, prosper, and evolve into a community that we can all take pride in. Ultimately, we all have a role to play in shaping the future of ASEAN, and we must give it our best effort.”
