Impending storm to hit 25 provinces in Thailand, TMD warns

The Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) issued a warning today for heavy rainfall in 25 provinces, with a looming storm set to inundate the southern region. The sudden flash floods are expected to be followed by another cold weather spell from tomorrow, December 6 to Friday, December 8.

The TMD’s 24-hour forecast indicates that a high-pressure system or cold air mass originating from China is gradually covering the northern and northeastern regions, and the South China Sea, albeit with decreasing intensity.

An easterly wind, carrying moisture from the South China Sea and the Gulf of Thailand, is set to cover the upper part of the country. This condition will result in rainfall in some areas of the upper part of the country, with the north and the northeast experiencing cool morning weather.

Residents in the upper part of the country are advised to take care of their health due to the changing weather conditions. Farmers are advised to prepare for potential damage to agricultural produce.

The northeastern monsoon currently covers the Gulf of Thailand and the southern region is moderately strong. This will result in heavy rainfall in some parts of the southern region. The waves in the Gulf of Thailand are of moderate strength, with wave heights of approximately 2 metres.

In areas with thunderstorms, wave heights may exceed 2 metres. Residents in the southern region are advised to be cautious of heavy rainfall and accumulated rain that may cause sudden flash floods and forest runoff, especially in sloping areas near waterways and low-lying areas.

High-pressure

Moreover, from December 6 to December 8, a new wave of high-pressure system or cold air mass from China will spread and cover Thailand’s upper northern and northeastern regions, and the South China Sea. The easterly wind will continue to carry moisture from the South China Sea and the Gulf of Thailand, covering the lower northern region, the lower northeastern region, the central region, Bangkok and its vicinity, and the eastern region.

This will result in thunderstorms in some areas of the upper part of the country initially, followed by a drop in temperature and strong winds. The northeastern region will experience a drop in temperature of 1-2 degrees Celsius and strong winds.

The northern, central, and eastern regions will experience a slight drop in temperature. The weather forecast for Thailand from 6am today to 6am tomorrow shows different conditions for different regions.

Residents in the regions are advised to be prepared for changes in weather conditions, while seafarers are urged to navigate with caution and avoid areas with thunderstorms during this period, reported by KhaoSod.
