Hits and hits: Singer attacked after stealing the spotlight, and kisses

A Thai singer is seeking justice after two men attacked him at a market in the Isaan province of Buriram. He suspects the motive was jealousy, as many female fans kissed him during his performance.

The 20 year old Thai singer, Teeraphat Katethaisong, filed a complaint against the two attackers at Phutthaisong Police Station, but officers concluded the case as a mutual fight. He insisted that he had never met the attackers before and had no prior conflict with them.

Teeraphat explained that he was walking in the market in the Phutthaisong district of Buriram on April 1 when two men and a woman, aged between 21 and 22, approached him. The men suddenly punched him in the face three times without saying a word before walking away with apparent satisfaction.

Teeraphat said he was very confused at the time because he had no conflict with anyone. He focused solely on singing and had been working as a singer to support his parents for over five years. He suspects that the motive for the attack may have been jealousy related to his career.

Teeraphat clarified that he travelled to perform at various events in Phutthaisong district and surrounding areas. He, along with other singers, dancers, and musicians, performed on a mobile stage, which would slowly move through the parade at each event.

A crowd of event attendees and his fans usually danced along with the parade, meaning the performers and the audience were close.

Some, especially women, gave him tips for his performance. In addition to tipping him, some also kissed him when he collected his reward.

Teeraphat suspects that one of his fans’ boyfriends may have felt jealous and launched the attack on him. He emphasised that he had never requested a kiss from fans or audience members and that the kisses were beyond his control.

Teeraphat said he could not predict who would approach and kiss him when he collected tips, nor could he know whether those who approached him had a boyfriend.

Teeraphat’s aunt urged people not to involve her nephew or others working in the same industry in jealous disputes, as they were simply performing their duties as entertainers.

The police have not revealed whether they will reconsider their judgment on the case.
