Food vendors rescue abandoned 8 month old baby boy in Chon Buri province
In a heartwarming act of kindness, a group of food vendors in Chon Buri province rescued an abandoned eight month old baby boy near a police booth. The baby is now under the care of the Department of Children and Youth.
According to a report by Channel 7, the vendors bathed and fed the infant before contacting the police. One vendor heard the baby’s cries and spotted him crawling in front of the police booth. The baby’s parents were nowhere to be seen, so she rushed to take care of him.
The vendor also noticed small red bumps all over the baby’s body, which suggested that he had been bitten by mosquitoes and other insects due to lack of care.
A 63 year old woman named Namthip Permkateklang disclosed that she did not know the parents of the baby in person. However, the couple visited her house last week and asked her to care for the baby. She refused as she could not afford to raise the child.
Namthip recommended that they give the baby to a 46 year old man named Somchai Inban, who also spoke to the media. Somchai said that the couple asked him to watch the baby while they went to buy powdered milk, but they never returned. He did not have the resources to care for the baby and decided to leave him near the police booth, keeping a watchful eye from a nearby booth.
Channel 7 reported that someone later visited the police for advice on how to care for the baby, but no one knew how the baby ended up abandoned in that spot.
The police sent the baby to Bang Lamueng Hospital for a health check adding that they would later transfer the baby to a shelter for children and families.
Many netizens expressed their concerns about the baby and condemned his parents. Some expressed an interest to adopt the baby and take care of him.
Unfortunately, a similar incident occurred in March when a newborn baby was abandoned in Soi Sukhumvit 36 in the Khlong Toei neighbourhood of Bangkok. The baby boy was wrapped in a pink towel and left in a forest along the road.
In November of last year, a man found a newborn baby girl in a trash can in Pattaya while he was taking his dog for a morning walk. The infant was wrapped in tissue paper and put in a plastic bag. A girl living nearby the scene was suspected after she called a rescue team to take her to a hospital just before the discovery of the infant – she was suffering from heavy blood loss.
