Chinese ex-boyfriend who attacked Chon Buri woman freed

A 23 year old woman in Chon Buri escaped an assault by her Chinese ex-boyfriend, who attacked her with a metal bar and threatened to cut her toes with scissors. Despite the severity of the incident, the man was released without charges after paying 50,000 baht in damages.
Police at Huay Yai Police Station received a report requesting assistance for a woman who had been assaulted in a secluded alley off Highway 331 in Huay Yai, Bang Lamung district, Chon Buri. Upon arrival, officers found the young woman, visibly shaken and covered in blood on her face, neck, and clothes.
Residents informed the police that the woman had been assaulted by a Chinese man but managed to escape and seek help. The attacker did not flee the scene as he had lost his car keys, while his two accomplices escaped in a separate vehicle.
The victim, referred to as Tukta (a pseudonym), explained that she had broken up with her Chinese boyfriend about a week before. He pleaded for a final meeting, promising not to pursue her further.
She agreed and was picked up by him, with two accomplices in another vehicle. Noticing the long distance they travelled, she became suspicious and a confrontation ensued, which led to them stopping in a deserted alley.
The Chinese man then physically assaulted her, using a metal bar to hit her face and banging her head against a tree. He also threatened her with scissors, attempting to cut her toes. Despite her cries for help, the accomplices stood by, allowing the attack to continue. She eventually managed to escape and seek help from locals, who contacted the police.
Released without charge
The police detained the Chinese man, aged between 25 and 35, and took him to the Huay Yai Police Station. After approximately an hour, they transported the woman back to her residence but surprisingly released the Chinese man without pressing charges. This decision left many puzzled, as police only mentioned that damages had been compensated without disclosing further details, citing confidentiality.
A friend of the Chinese man revealed that the couple had been together for over a year, frequently arguing and reconciling. The reason for this violent outburst remains unclear.
No legal charges were pursued, and compensation of 40,000 to 50,000 baht was paid to the woman. The police are reportedly negotiating the matter, raising concerns that the incident might be overlooked, similar to a previous case involving a Chinese man forcing a woman to use drugs, leading to her death, reported KhaoSod.
