Chalong cops collar suspect in oil tanker heist
A high-stakes manhunt came to a dramatic end in Chalong as officers from the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) arrested a 48 year old man wanted for a string of audacious crimes, including a daring nighttime raid on an oil tanker and evidence tampering.
Identified only as Nirut, the suspect was apprehended at Chalong Police Station following an intense investigation into individuals with outstanding warrants, the CIB confirmed.
While the exact timing of his arrest remains under wraps, police detailed how officers tracked Nirut to his hideout.
“After locating him in Chalong, police notified their superiors and proceeded to the scene.”
Officers read Nirut his legal rights before taking him into custody, ensuring every step adhered to protocol.
The allegations against Nirut are as gripping as they are serious. He faces charges of jointly stealing property at nighttime with two or more people and damaging, destroying, hiding, or rendering useless official property or evidence. These acts, according to investigators, were aimed at helping others evade punishment or mitigate their legal troubles.
Nirut has since been handed over to Crime Suppression Division 2 for further questioning and legal proceedings. Meanwhile, police vow to press on with their crackdown on organised crime, reported Phuket News.
“Officers are continuing efforts to track and apprehend individuals involved in similar criminal activities.”
