A shocking incident occurred at the Siam Carnival Funfair under the Rama 8 Bridge where a giant octopus ride collapsed, injuring three teenagers. Immediate assistance was provided by authorities who also revealed the cause and pledged to take responsibility.

Last night, an amusement ride at the waterfront Siam Carnival Funfair located under the Rama 8 Bridge on Arun Amarin Road, Bang Yi Khan, Bang Phlat District, Bangkok, malfunctioned and crashed to the ground, causing multiple injuries. Officers immediately rushed to the scene with volunteers from the Ruamkatanyu Foundation.

The malfunctioned ride was a giant octopus-themed ride named Polipo. The ride at Siam Carnival Funfair consisted of five arms extending from a rotating centre, with each arm accommodating up to four seats, allowing two individuals per seat.

Upon inspection, it was discovered that one of the arms, the hydraulic shock absorber, was damaged. This resulted in the arm crashing to the ground, causing three individuals to suffer from bruises and abrasions. The injured, a 14 year old girl named A, 24 year old Piyawan, and 29 year old Thanyarat were all rushed to the Chaophraya Hospital for immediate medical attention.

When asked about the incident, the 42 year old General Manager of Siam Carnival Funfair, Somchai (surname withheld), stated that the malfunctioned ride was imported from Italy and had a high-quality safety system that immediately halted operation upon the occurrence of the accident, preventing any customers from falling off their seats.

He further added that this was the first such incident at the park. Prior to opening for business, the ride was tested thoroughly, as is the case with every ride, reported KhaoSod.

However, after the accident occurred, it was discovered that a roughly 50-millimetre thick iron clasp had cracked, causing the seat to fall.

Fortunately, only three to four people suffered minor injuries. The park responsible for the Siam Carnival Funfair pledged to cover all medical expenses and any property damages. The investigation officer documented the incident and planned to question the injured at the hospital. They will also summon all responsible parties for an inquiry according to legal procedures.

Following the incident, the ride at the Siam Carnival Funfair was lifted with a crane, and it was announced that it would be permanently closed. However, other rides will continue to operate until October 31.
