Police arrested a Thai woman after she stole cash and valuables worth about 200,000 baht from her boyfriend in July and fled arrest to work as a call centre scammer in a neighbouring country.

The 27 year old Thai man, named Ton, took to social media on July 24 to expose the criminal behaviour of his girlfriend, 21 year old Ploy. He revealed that Ploy stole 18,100 baht in cash, and gold and diamond accessories worth 175,000 baht, and valuable amulets from his home.

Ton shared CCTV footage showing Ploy entering his home and calmly stealing the valuables and cash without anyone noticing. Ton added that Ploy also took his car, a Honda Jazz hatchback, with her.

Officers from the Investigation Division of the Metropolitan Police Bureau (IDMB) eventually arrested Ploy on Saturday, September 21, at a border checkpoint in the Aranyaprathet district of the Isaan province of Sa Kaeo.

Ploy admitted to her crime and told police that she fled arrest to continue her criminal activities as a call centre scammer in a neighbouring country. She returned to Thailand via the border checkpoint, leading to her arrest.

Ploy revealed that she had financial issues because of online gambling. She said she wanted to borrow money from Ton, but he refused to lend her any, so she resorted to theft. She claimed she only managed to get 60,000 baht in cash and valuables, not nearly 200,000 baht as her boyfriend stated.

Ploy also accused her boyfriend of working with a call centre scam gang. She said Ton was not at home when she committed the crime because he was in Cambodia working with the scam gang.

Join scam gang

Ploy went on to reveal that she came across a call centre scam job advertisement on TikTok. It advertised that each scammer would earn 25,000 baht monthly and could earn more commission if they managed to scam people. However, each scammer had to meet a target of 50,000 baht per month.

Ploy revealed that she had worked for three different call centre scam gangs. She witnessed a colleague deceive a Thai nurse out of 5 million baht and aspired to achieve similar success but ultimately fell short. After this, she decided to join another criminal gang, yet she still failed.

Ploy alleged that the Thai leader of one gang coerced her into becoming his mistress, a proposal she flatly rejected. As a result, she was dismissed and subsequently moved to another gang before her eventual arrest.

She told the police that her initial motivation was to earn some money to repay Ton. However, her greed grew, and she continued scamming in the hopes of striking it rich one day.

Ploy cautioned others not to follow her path, despite the lure of high income.

IDMB officers reported that Ploy was previously a well-known TikTok user, boasting over 36,000 followers on her account.

ORIGINAL STORY: Thai man hunts for ex-girlfriend after 200,000 baht theft (video)

A Thai man took to social media to search for his ex-girlfriend after she stole cash and valuables worth nearly 200,000 baht from his home in Bangkok.

The victim, 27 year old Ton, shared security camera footage of the theft and a picture of his 21 year old ex-girlfriend named Ploy on his Facebook page on July 24 with a few words revealing the alleged crime.

“Missing person! This woman stole from me and my family. She stole 18,100 baht in cash, two gold necklaces worth about 90,000 baht, a gold ring worth about 20,000 baht, a diamond ring worth about 65,000 baht, and five Buddhist amulets. It’s enough. I’m done with this woman. The more I love her, the more I feel hurt.”

Ploy was seen wearing a long black sweater and long trousers. She grabbed a key from a drawer outside Ton’s home, which operated as a grocery store, and disappeared into the house for about a minute. She returned the key to the same place, checked if anyone had witnessed her theft, and left the home.

Ton later revealed that Ploy also took his car, a silver Honda Jazz. He urged netizens to contact him if they found Ploy or had any useful information because he and his family were in trouble after the losses.

Ton had one necklace left and attempted to pawn it for daily expenses after the loss, only to find out that his gold was counterfeit. He believed Ploy exchanged the authentic one with the fake one while he was sleeping.

More victims

Ton updated his post revealing that Ploy’s new boyfriend contacted him and revealed that Ploy stole his piggy bank and gold before disappearing. Ton added that Ploy also cheated others and tricked him and his family into paying off her 300,000 baht debt.

Channel 3 reported that Ton and Ploy were in a relationship for about four years and broke up in April because Ploy had an affair with another man. However, they were still friends, and Ploy still came to Ton’s home.

Ploy stole cash from Ton and his family members multiple times before but the family did not check the CCTV and did not expect that Ploy was the thief. They began to check CCTV footage after the recent theft, which caused a huge loss to them.

The media reported that Ploy had quite a lot of followers on her TikTok account because of her pretty looks and her luxurious lifestyle.

Ton filed a complaint against his ex-girlfriend at Nimitmai Police Station but the officers had not yet provided an update on the case.
