A Thai woman in Bangkok lost 50,000 baht in cash to her boyfriend after only two days of dating and not even knowing his full name.

The 18 year old victim, Warissara, filed a complaint with Hua Mark Police Station at 3.20am on Saturday, August 3, after 50,000 baht in cash went missing from her room on the first floor of a condominium in Bangkapi district, Bangkok.

Warissara told police she kept 90,000 baht in cash in a brown paper bag hidden in her wardrobe drawer. She left her room at 12.20am on the day of the incident to meet her friend, leaving her new boyfriend alone in her room.

The teenage girl returned around 3am to find her room unlocked. She checked her cash and discovered 50,000 baht missing.

The victim contacted her boyfriend but he did not respond to her calls. She suspected him of the theft, noticing fingerprints on the wardrobe and requesting further police investigation to confirm her suspicions.

Warissara admitted she did not know her boyfriend’s full name, as they had only been dating for two days before the incident.

In a similar incident in June, a Thai man lost 35,000 baht in cash and an iPhone 14 Pro Max to his 21 year old boyfriend while staying at a hotel in the northern province of Chiang Rai.

The victim revealed he had supported his boyfriend financially and forgiven him for several mistakes throughout their six-month relationship. He suspected his boyfriend’s friend and drug use motivated the theft.

In another related incident, a Singaporean man lost cash and valuables worth over 1 million baht to his Thai girlfriend last month.

He had been talking to her online for over four years and, feeling confident in her, arranged to meet in person. Unfortunately, the girlfriend drugged him and disappeared with his Rolex watch, cash, and designer clothes.
