Thai politician arrested for drug trafficking in Bangkok bust
Party vows reform after candidate's arrest in major drug bust scandal

The People’s Party Samutprakarn’s Facebook page issued an apology to the public following the arrest of a party candidate for drug trafficking.
Yesterday, May 7, police colonel investigators from Min Buri Police Station apprehended 27 year old Apivat, known as Fluke, with a substantial amount of drugs including 480,000 methamphetamine pills, 1 kilogramme of crystal methamphetamine, and 1 kilogramme of ketamine at a residence in Khlong Sam Wa, Bangkok.
This arrest followed months of investigation into the Boonraksa drug trafficking gang, with Apivat identified as a key figure responsible for storing and distributing the drugs.
In response to the arrest, the People’s Party Samutprakarn publicly apologised, acknowledging the severity of the allegations against their candidate, who was running for a municipal council member position in Lat Luang, Samut Prakan province.
The party emphasised the importance of the legal process in establishing facts and legal responsibility. Moreover, they urged the candidate to show political accountability by withdrawing from the upcoming election.
The party stated their commitment to closely monitoring the situation and pledged to revoke the person’s party membership if found guilty. They expressed their intention to learn from this incident to improve their candidate selection process, reported KhaoSod.
The People’s Party Samutprakarn accepted this incident as a lesson to enhance their candidate selection process for future elections. This development follows the arrest of a member of the Boonraksa drug trafficking gang, which had been under surveillance for months, leading to the seizure of nearly half a million methamphetamine pills.

In similar news, police foiled a drug smuggling attempt involving 100 kilogrammes of crystal methamphetamine disguised as a family trip. On April 28, Police Major General Khongkrit Lertsitthikul led the operation that resulted in the arrest of four suspects in Chumphon province.
The suspects, including 40 year old Narongsak, 43 year old Sirisak, 19 year old Pornpen, and a 17 year old known only as A, were apprehended with the drugs, two vehicles, and six mobile phones near the Highway Police Service Unit on Road 41 at kilometre 62, heading south.
