Thailand’s Prachuap Khiri Khan province gets tourism blast from long weekend

Thailand’s Prachuap Khiri Khan province got a tourism blast during the recent long weekend. The province generated a revenue of over 548 million baht, according to the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT).

The director of TAT’s Prachuap Khiri Khan Office, Atchawun Kongkapan, reported that the tourism atmosphere in the province was very lively during the holiday weekend, with hotel occupancy rates averaging around 70 to 80%.

Thai tourists mostly consisted of families, groups of friends, and young couples. Foreign tourists mainly came from Germany, England, France, China, Korea, and Japan, Hua Hin Today reported.

Tourists enjoyed many of Prachuap Khiri Khan’s outdoor adventure offerings. Over 1,000 tourists climbed the Khao Lom Muak viewpoint. More than 200 international and local cyclists participated in the Dust Man Gravel Challenge cycling event.

Local businesses were in for a treat, with restaurants, cafes, souvenir shops, and other small businesses all reporting higher sales than usual.

Hua Hin district remains Prachuap Khiri Khan’s main destination for Thai tourists, but other districts also attracted a large number of visitors. These included Ao Manao and the area around the Wing 5 military base, Ban Krood Beach, Ao Bo Thonglang, Phra Mahathat Chedi Pakdee Prakas in Bang Saphan district, and the Dan Singkhon border checkpoint.

Meanwhile, AirAsia has announced that it is adding one more flight from Chiang Mai to Hua Hin, making it four flights per week starting from April 2023. Promotional fares for the new flight start from 790 baht per person, which is expected to further boost tourism in the area, especially during the upcoming Songkran festival.

Prachuap Khiri Khan saw a significant rise in the number of tourists visiting in 2022, with the number of both domestic and international tourists showing a substantial increase.

The data, released by TAT, reveals an almost five-fold increase in the number of tourists visiting the province in 2022, compared to the previous year.

In 2022, 9,747,884 tourists visited Prachuap Khiri Khan, with 9,597,432 being domestic tourists and 150,452 tourists from overseas, according to TAT. This is a significant increase from the 2.6 million tourists who visited the province in 2021.
