Car crash into parked truck in Chon Buri leaves driver dead
A tragic accident occurred when a car crashed into the rear of a parked 18-wheel truck in front of a petrol station, leaving the vehicle severely damaged and resulting in the death of the driver. The truck driver was unaware of the collision until police informed him.
Police officers from the Ban Bueng Police Station were notified of the incident early today at approximately 4.30am. The collision took place on the Chon Buri-Ban Bueng Road, in front of a petrol station in Ban Bueng district, Chon Buri province.
Upon arrival at the scene, police and rescue teams from the Ban Bueng Moral Foundation found the 18-wheel Hino truck, registered in Phitsanulok, parked at the roadside.
Behind the truck was a Nissan Almera car, registered in Bangkok, which had crashed into the rear of the truck.
Inside the car, police discovered the driver, 45 year old Kraiwitch, in critical condition. Despite efforts to resuscitate him, the driver succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
The truck driver, 37 year old Watchara, explained his perspective of the incident.
“I was on my way to deliver goods and felt drowsy, so I decided to park and rest in front of the petrol station. I was completely unaware that another vehicle had crashed into my truck until the police knocked on my door to inform me.”
Upon inspecting the scene with the officers, he found the car wedged into the rear of his truck.
Initial investigations by the police suggest that the car driver might have fallen asleep at the wheel, causing him to lose control and crash into the parked truck.
This theory is backed by the absence of any apparent attempt by the car to brake or change direction before the collision, reported KhaoSod.
The police plan to review CCTV footage from the vicinity to better understand the circumstances leading up to the crash. They also intend to conduct a more detailed interrogation of the truck driver, Watchara, to piece together the sequence of events more accurately.
