Teen accidentally fires homemade gun, injures friend in Pathum Thani
A 19 year old man accidentally discharged a gun, injuring himself and critically wounding his friend at a convenience store. Police swiftly responded, discovering a homemade pen gun at the scene. The incident occurred in the early hours of today, November 1.
At 3.30am, police were alerted to a shooting incident at the entrance of Soi Rangsit-Pathum Thani 14, Pathum Thani province. Police officers, including Phanumart Naksuk, and emergency responders rushed to the scene. They discovered a pool of blood on the steps and drainage grate outside a convenience store, alongside two injured teenagers.
One of the injured, 19 year old Rattaphoom, suffered a gunshot wound from a .38 calibre bullet, which entered through his nose and exited the back of his head. He was found in a critical condition.
Another teenager, 19 year old Thanabodee, sustained a gunshot wound to his right wrist. Emergency services promptly transported both youths to Pathumvech Hospital and Prachathipat Hospital for urgent medical treatment.
A thorough examination of the scene revealed a homemade pen gun, a spent .38 calibre shell casing, and a red fabric gun case. Additionally, a red Honda MSX motorcycle without a license plate, believed to belong to the injured individuals, was parked in front of the store. These items were seized as evidence by the police.
A nearby vegetable vendor, preparing to set up his stall, reported not witnessing the incident. He arrived to find a pool of blood and learnt that two injured teenagers had already been taken to the hospital. According to the vendor, the teenagers claimed the gun was accidentally discharged, resulting in injuries to both themselves and others.
Police investigators shared that Thanabodee and Rattaphoom stated they had driven to the convenience store on the motorcycle. Thanabodee, who was carrying the homemade pen gun, accidentally discharged it, injuring his hand and critically wounding Rattaphoom. However, the exact circumstances surrounding the incident remain unclear, reported KhaoSod.
Police intend to conduct further investigations to ascertain the true cause of the accident.
