Led by Vorapong Khamlue, the Deputy Commander of Provincial Police Region 5, and Thawatchawong Chookitkun, the Superintendent of Investigation 3, the team executed coordinated raids in both Chiang Mai and Lamphun provinces.
The first raid took place at a dormitory in Ban Thi, Lamphun. There, police arrested 42 year old On, and confiscated 59 underground lottery tickets. On had been using Facebook under the alias แตงอ่อน คำตา(รักยอมแพ้เธอ) to advertise and encourage the public to participate in the illegal lottery. On admitted to the charges and was subsequently taken to Ban Thi Police Station for legal proceedings.
A separate raid occurred at a grocery store in San Phi Suea, Chiang Mai. Police apprehended 55 year old Saengla, who was found in possession of three underground lottery tickets worth a total of 27,400 baht (US$820), a mobile phone, and a ledger containing records of bets. On the day of the raid, an undercover agent purchased 120 baht (US$4) worth of underground lottery tickets from Saengla. Police revealed their identities while Saengla was recording customer bets over the phone. Saengla was then taken to Maeping Police Station to face charges.
