Jealous gunman arrested for shooting over woman in Udon Thani
A gunman has been arrested for shooting a 26 year old man twice in the back in a dispute over a woman. The incident occurred on Saturday, January 4 in the Mueang district of Udon Thani province.
The victim, Apisit, was shot on the road beneath the Huai Luang Dam but managed to seek help from the dam’s security guard, narrowly escaping death.
On January 6, the police from Huai Luang substation and Kudjab district’s investigative team apprehended the suspect, 27 year old Likhit, also known as Birdy, in a rice field in Nong Wua So district, Udon Thani province.
Likhit was taken to the crime scene for a reconstruction, observed by his father.
Police Colonel Chakach Tiamwong, Deputy Commander of Udon Thani Provincial Police, revealed that Apisit had been in contact with a woman named Aoy and had arranged to meet at the Huai Luang Dam.
As Apisit drove there, Likhit followed on a motorcycle and shot him.
After the shooting, Likhit fled to a girlfriend’s dormitory in Kudjab district. The motive was jealousy, as Likhit had threatened Apisit to stay away from Aoy but he refused.
Upon Likhit’s arrest, police searched his girlfriend’s dormitory and discovered 4,334 methamphetamine pills, a 9mm handgun, 91 rounds of 9mm ammunition, one gun holster, a full-face helmet, and a black shoulder bag. Likhit claimed that he had been dining with his girlfriend and had not arranged to meet Apisit.
After the meal, they were driving when they encountered Apisit. Likhit shot him due to a previous altercation over Apisit borrowing his motorcycle without permission, reported khaoSod.
Likhit had warned Apisit to stay away from Aoy and harboured resentment for over six months. The gun was bought for 40,000 baht (US$1,155) from a Lao national, along with the methamphetamine, intended for sale to youths in the Kudjab district.
