2. Trimurti Shrine

This shrine features the God of love, Trimurti, which prompts many singles to show up every evening at 9:30 pm wearing red clothing. Here, they pay their respects to Trimurti, by offering red roses, with the hopes that it will help them meet their everlasting lover. Moreover, many believe that the God helps match foreigners with Thai partners. Therefore, many visitors crowd the shrine on Thursday nights, hoping their respects will yield romance.

As Trimurti also represents Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva, the actual gold statue is that of a human body with 2 heads and 4 arms. The shrine was built in 1989 and sits on a raised platform that is sheltered by a dome sitting on 4 pillars. Moreover, the pillars feature carved gables that are quite elaborate. Additionally, the shrine was crafted in classical Indian sculpture, but features a Thai influence. The shrine is actually a replica of the one in the ancient city of Ayutthaya.

Horse lovers will enjoy this attraction as crowds flock to the races, shouting ‘Chok Dee,’ or ‘lucky’ in English, on the final lap of the race. Despite betting being illegal in Thailand, placing bets on horses is not considered taboo. Furthermore, horse racing is considered a prestigious sport, as it attracts those in the hi-so (high society). Moreover, such elite sports club members have access to other facilities like swimming pools, golf courses, tennis and more.

As most Bangkok sports clubs are not accepting new members, the public is allowed to attend horseracing events, which are held every 2nd Sunday. The sports club also hosts about 26 races each year, with 4 cups: Ram Rakop Cup, the Royal Darby Cup, Chairman’s Cup, and the Phraya Pradipatpubal Cup.
