Teenagers on motorbikes open fire near Yala police flat, injuring girl

A group of teenagers riding motorbikes yesterday opened fire near a police flat in Yala, inadvertently wounding a teenage girl. Police are actively pursuing the suspects involved in the shooting.

Yala City Police Station received reports of a violent altercation involving firearms at 8pm, yesterday, July 9. The incident took place at the Ber Serng intersection, near the police flats in the Yala Municipality area. Officers quickly arrived at the area of the incident after receiving the report.

The location of the shooting, near the Yala police flats, showed evidence of the altercation with noticeable bloodstains and a single 9-millimetre bullet casing. The police collected the casing as evidence.

The injured victim, a 14 year old girl, had been promptly transported to Yala Central Hospital by her friends. She suffered from a gunshot wound to her right leg and was in serious condition. Medical staff were providing urgent care to stabilise her.

Initial inquiries revealed that the assailants were three teenagers riding a Honda motorcycle. The group fired two shots at their intended target but one of the bullets struck the young girl. After the shooting, the teenagers fled the scene.

The police gathered the bullet casing and are reviewing CCTV footage from the vicinity of the police flat to aid in identifying and capturing the suspects. The footage is expected to provide crucial insights into the events leading up to and following the shooting, reported KhaoSod.
