CCTV footage showed a Thai man with mental health issues wandering around a community in the Isaan province of Udon Thani wearing only underwear and damaging locals’ property with a wooden stick.

The owner of a dormitory in the Ban Lao community, Somphit Tosuk, filed a complaint against the 50 year old Thai man named Pom and handed security camera footage to Mueang Udon Thani Police Station officers as evidence.

In the video, Pom is seen walking into his dormitory wearing only underpants and hitting a motorcycle and a dormitory window with a wooden stick.

Somphit revealed to Amarin TV that a tenant told her the incident took place at approximately 9pm, yesterday, July 9. Pom was beating her tenant’s motorcycle and the room window while talking to himself, before leaving the scene.

Somphit explained that Pom has a mental illness but said she was unsure whether it was a result of drug use. Pom’s mother and younger sister once lived with him at a house in the community but they could not tolerate his behaviour any longer and moved out.

According to Somphit, this was not the first time Pom had exhibited violent behaviour. Another Thai man who lives in the area told Workpoint News that Pom had struck his home with a wooden stick four to five times before. His neighbour’s home had been damaged more than five times previously.

The man confirmed that Pom’s mental illness was due to his drug use. Pom always asked his mother and sister for money, and if they refused, he would go on a rampage and threaten to harm them. Consequently, they left Pom to live alone.

The man urged the police and other relevant authorities to remove Pom from the community and find him a suitable shelter where he could receive treatment for his mental health issues. He was concerned that Pom’s behaviour would become more violent.
