Thai netizens condemned a foreigner who, while drunk, drove an SUV into a crowd of Thai and international visitors on Bangla Walking Street in Phuket. Some netizens have suggested that the driver might not actually be of foreign nationality.

The Phuket Times shared pictures of an MG light blue SUV parked on a zebra crossing in the middle of Bangla Road today, September 5. The caption read…

“Visa-free tourist strikes again! Phuket! Drunk foreigner! He drove the car into Soi Bangla at high speed while many visitors were walking there. This is dangerous! This is what happens in a world-class tourist destination.”

Foreigners in the pictures were seen looking curiously and staring at the car as they walked past. A police officer was called to the scene, as seen in the picture showing the official’s motorcycle parked there.

The nationality of the foreign driver remained undisclosed but is likely among those who entered Thailand under the visa-free scheme.

Netizens expressed their disapproval in the comment section under the post.

“They will have no future to wait for if this happens in their home country. Thailand gives freedom to foreigners, allowing them to settle any case with money. Now they are telling each other to act as they please in our country.”

“It’s not about the visa-free scheme. It’s about Thai laws. Some countries would ban such foreigners for 10 years. What about Thai laws? How can we show foreigners that Thai laws are stronger than they think?”

“They might think that paying the fine makes everything okay. Foreigners are not afraid of Thai laws. They even act as if they own this country.”

“Kicking a Thai doctor is not wrong, so why should this be?”

Police officers should be stationed at this place.”

However, there was no report on whether the foreigners faced any legal charges for the chaos or not.

Some netizens stated that the driver may not be a foreigner, pointing out stickers on the car windscreen suggesting it was an app-based taxi.
