Phuket immigration busts 5 Indians in crackdown on illegal workers

Phuket Immigration officers, in collaboration with Region 8 Police, arrested five Indian nationals and a Thai woman involved in illegal employment. The operation, led by senior officers, highlights the province’s ongoing efforts to combat unlawful foreign workers and ensure the safety of residents and tourists.
In a coordinated effort led by Police Colonel Kriangkrai Ariyaying, Superintendent of Phuket Immigration, along with Police Lieutenant Colonel Wisarut Lad-ong and Pol. Lt. Col. Rangsinan Chanphet, a recent crackdown resulted in the arrest of six people accused of violating Thailand’s work visa regulations.
The five Indian nationals, Ghanshyam, Rupesh, Rampravesh, Sachin, and Harjinder, were detained for working without proper work permits while holding tourist visas. The Thai national, identified as Oruma, was arrested for allegedly hiring foreign nationals without the required permits.
Although the exact location, time, and date of the arrests were not disclosed, the group was apprehended after immigration officers uncovered their involvement in construction work across Phuket. Despite holding tourist visas, they had been repeatedly working on various construction sites throughout the province.
This was in clear violation of Thai immigration and employment laws, which prohibit foreign nationals from working without a valid work permit.
The five Indian nationals were formally charged with working illegally, while Oruma faces charges for hiring them in contravention of the law.
After the arrests, the group was informed of the charges against them, their rights, and the legal procedures involved.
The case was then transferred to Phuket City Police Station for further investigation and legal action, reported The Phuket News.
Phuket Immigration remains firm in its commitment to tackling illegal employment and safeguarding the integrity of the province’s workforce.
Officials have urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities involving foreign nationals working unlawfully. This operation is part of a wider effort to maintain the security and trust of the local community and international visitors.
