A 26 year old Belarusian man was found dead hanging from a tree near a dam in Karon, West Thailand. The man, identified as Alexander Zapronenko, had been staying with a friend in a nearby rented accommodation at Moo1, Patak Soi 20. His body was discovered after he had been missing for two days when a local stray dog appeared with one of his shoes, prompting his friend to search the surrounding forest areas.

A forensic physician from Vachira Phuket Hospital examined the body and estimated it had been hanging from the tree for at least a day. The Belarusian man’s body was then taken to Vachira Hospital for a more thorough autopsy. The friend who had been staying with Zapronenko told police that he had been suffering from mental health issues, including depression, and had spent two weeks at Vachia Hospital seeking medical help. He had been discharged on May 30, and his friend had come to stay with him to offer support, reported Phuket News.

According to the friend, Zapronenko had been feeling unwell due to diarrhoea and sickness, which led to him sleeping often. The police recorded the friend’s account as official evidence and confirmed they have been working with the Belarusian embassy to inform the deceased’s family and arrange for the transportation of his body back to Belarus.
