Pattaya’s deputy mayor, Manoch Nongyai, yesterday oversaw a restoration project at Chalerm Phrakiat Public Park in Old Town Naklua. The initiative is part of the larger Neo Pattaya project, which aims to transform Pattaya into a central hub for commerce and tourism within the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) zone. This ambitious endeavour is supported by a multimillion-baht budget, and authorities hope to revitalise Old Town Naklua by highlighting its rich cultural heritage, traditions, and natural beauty through seven sub-projects.

The Neo Pattaya sub-projects include: The construction of a parking building for the tourism product market, with a budget of 96 million baht; the renovation of the fresh seafood market, budgeted at 4.5 million baht; and the improvement of the Chalerm Phrakiat Park, with a budget of 30 million baht.

Other Neo Pattaya sub-projects include the creation of a nature trail, enhancement of the viewpoint at Pakong Naklua, construction of an educational nature study trail along the Kong Nok Yang Canal, and the construction of a community fishing port. All of these projects are scheduled for completion within 2023.

During Manoch Nongyai’s recent visit to the Chalerm Phrakiat Public Park, he told The Pattaya News that the park’s restoration was 80% complete, with only minor details remaining. The park is expected to be fully operational for visitors by August. The lengthy closure of the park has caused some inconvenience to the public, and as a result, Pattaya City is working diligently to accelerate the construction process. In the coming months, the park will undergo an opening hours trial period, operating daily from 5am to 10pm.
