Police in Chon Buri arrested a Buddhist monk and seized a small amount of crystal methamphetamine after the monk allegedly slapped a woman in the face during a heated argument. The 32 year old monk was taken back to the temple following the arrest and the abbot defrocked him. He was then taken to the Samet police station and charged with assault and drug possession.

Police received a call for a domestic disturbance and found the monk arguing with a woman in a room rented in the Samet area. Officers searched the room and found a gram of crystal methamphetamine in a cigarette box. The monk allegedly told police that he bought the drugs for 400 baht and described the woman as his girlfriend, which is taboo as Buddhist monks take a vow of celibacy and are strictly forbidden from even touching women.
