TMD issues weather warning for 39 provinces, rain in Bangkok

The Meteorological Department of Thailand (TMD) issued a weather warning for 39 provinces, particularly in the northern and northeastern regions, predicting heavy rainfall in some areas. Bangkok is expected to experience rain in 30% of its area.

The TMD forecasts the weather for the next 24 hours, noting that a monsoon trough is passing through the upper part of the northern region and upper Laos, extending to a low-pressure cell over northern Vietnam and the Gulf of Tonkin.

Additionally, a moderate southwest monsoon is covering the upper Andaman Sea and the upper part of Thailand. This combination is causing heavy rainfall in the northern and upper northeastern regions, with some parts of the southern region experiencing thunderstorms.

Residents in these areas are advised to be cautious of the dangers posed by heavy rainfall.

The northern region is set to experience thunderstorms in 70% of the area, with heavy rain expected in certain provinces, including Mae Hong Son, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Lampang, Phayao, Nan, Uttaradit, Tak, Phitsanulok, and Phetchabun. Temperatures will range from a low of 24 to 26 degrees Celsius to a high of 32 to 34°C. Southwesterly winds range between 10 to 20 kilometres per hour.

In the northeastern region, thunderstorms are predicted in 40% of the area, with heavy rain expected in provinces such as Loei, Nong Khai, Bueng Kan, Udon Thani, Sakon Nakhon, Nakhon Phanom, and Mukdahan. The temperature range will be from 24 to 27°C to a high of 33 to 37°C. Southwesterly winds range between 10 to 20 km/hr.

The central region will see thunderstorms in 30% of the area, mainly in Nakhon Sawan, Uthai Thani, Saraburi, Kanchanaburi, Ratchaburi, and Samut Songkhram. Temperatures here will range from a low of 24 to 27°C to a high of 34 to 36°C. Southwesterly winds range between 10 to 25 km/hr.

The eastern region is forecasted to have thunderstorms in 40% of the area, particularly in Nakhon Nayok, Prachin Buri, Sa Kaeo, Chanthaburi, and Trat. The temperature will be between 25 to 28°C and a high of 33 to 35°C. Southwesterly winds range between 20 to 35 km/hr. The sea will have waves approximately 1 metre high, rising to over 1 metre in areas with thunderstorms.

In the southern east coast region, thunderstorms are expected in 20% of the area, mainly in Phetchaburi, Songkhla, Pattani, Yala, and Narathiwat. Temperatures are expected to range from a low of 23 to 27°C to a high of 34 to 36°C. Southwesterly winds range between 15 to 30 km/hr. The sea will have waves about 1 metre high, exceeding 1 metre in areas with thunderstorms.

The southern west coast region will also have thunderstorms in 20% of the area, particularly in Trang and Satun. Temperatures will range from 25 to 27°Cs to a high of 33 to 35°C. Southwesterly winds range between 15 to 35 km/hr. From Phang Nga upwards, the sea will have waves of 1 to 2 metres, rising above 2 metres in areas with thunderstorms. From Phuket downwards, the sea will have waves around one metre high, exceeding 1 metre in areas with thunderstorms.

Bangkok and surrounding areas are no different, with the weather forecast expecting thunderstorms in 30% of the area. The temperature will range from 27 to 28°C to a high of 33 to 36°C. Southwesterly winds range between 10 to 25 km/hr.
