Thailand issues weather warning for heavy rain in 40 provinces

Thailand’s Meteorological Department issued another serious weather warning for 40 provinces, urging residents, especially in Bangkok, its surrounding areas, the southern region, and the eastern region, to prepare for heavy rainfall affecting up to 70% of these regions.

The TMD forecasts that in the next 24 hours, easterly and southeasterly winds will bring moisture from the South China Sea and the Gulf of Thailand, covering the lower central region, Bangkok and its vicinity, and the eastern region. This weather pattern is expected to result in heavy rain in some areas.

In the northern region, the weather will be cooler in the mornings, particularly in the upper part of the region, with thunderstorms affecting 20% of the area. The provinces most likely to experience these conditions include Chiang Mai, Lampang, Tak, Kamphaeng Phet, Phichit, Phitsanulok, and Phetchabun. The temperatures in these areas will range from a low of 22 to 26 degrees Celsius (°C) to a high of 32 to 35°C.

The northeastern region will also experience cool mornings in the upper part, with thunderstorms expected in 10% of the area, mainly in the provinces of Chaiyaphum, Nakhon Ratchasima, Buriram, Surin, and Sisaket. Temperatures are forecasted to be between 22 and 25°C at the lowest and 32 to 35°C at the highest.

In the central region, thunderstorms are anticipated in 40% of the area, with heavy rain in some places, particularly in the provinces of Kanchanaburi, Ratchaburi, Nakhon Pathom, Samut Songkhram, and Samut Sakhon. The temperatures here will range from 22 to 26°C to 32 to 34°C.

The eastern region is expected to see thunderstorms in 70% of the area, with heavy rain in some parts, particularly in Chachoengsao, Chon Buri, Rayong, Chanthaburi, and Trat. The temperatures will vary between 24 and 26°C at the lowest and 32 to 34°C at the highest. The sea will have waves less than 1 metre high, but in areas with thunderstorms, waves could exceed 2 metres.

In the southern region, the eastern coast will experience thunderstorms in 70% of the area, with some areas getting heavy rain. Provinces affected include Chumphon, Surat Thani, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Phatthalung, Songkhla, Pattani, Yala, and Narathiwat. The temperatures will be between 23 and 25°C at the lowest and 30 to 34°C at the highest. The sea will have waves less than 1 metre high, but in areas with thunderstorms, waves could be more than 2 metres high.

The western coast of the southern region will also see thunderstorms in 70% of the area, with heavy rain in some parts, particularly in Ranong, Phang Nga, Phuket, Krabi, Trang, and Satun. The temperatures will range from 23 to 25°C at the lowest to 31 to 33°C at the highest. The sea will have waves about 1 metre high, but in areas with thunderstorms, waves could be more than 2 metres high.

In Bangkok and its surrounding areas, thunderstorms are expected in 70% of the area, with heavy rain in some locations. The temperatures will range from 25 to 27 degrees Celsius at the lowest to 32 to 35 degrees Celsius at the highest.
