Thai pedestrian injured after runaway trailer smashes into footpath

Woman narrowly avoids injury as trailer continues to crash into parked cars

A trailer unexpectedly detached from a semi-truck and crashed onto a footpath in Samut Prakan province near Bangkok, injuring a male pedestrian. A woman walking nearby narrowly escaped the accident.

The Facebook page ข่าวสารเมืองปราการ v2 (Mueang Prakan News v2) shared CCTV footage of the incident on July 24. The crash reportedly occurred outside the Samut Prakan Provincial Bus Terminal, although the exact date was not specified.

The video showed the semi-truck approaching the terminal when the trailer it was towing suddenly detached and veered onto the footpath. The woman noticed the oncoming trailer and managed to run to safety.

Unfortunately, a man standing nearby and using his mobile phone did not notice the danger and was directly struck by the trailer. The trailer continued to crash into four parked cars outside the terminal. An electricity pole was also damaged in the accident.

The Facebook page did not provide details about the victim’s condition or the cause of the trailer’s detachment.

Local police have not yet released a statement regarding any legal action against the truck driver or the transport company.

According to a similar incident reported previously, the driver may be charged under Section 201 of the Criminal Law: reckless driving causing death, which carries a penalty of up to 10 years’ imprisonment, a fine of up to 200,000 baht, or both.

In a separate incident on Tuesday, July 23, in the central province of Kanchanaburi, a 10-wheel truck collided with five vehicles in Sangkhla district, resulting in three fatalities and 23 injuries.

Bangkok also saw a similar incident last week, when a 10-wheel truck reportedly suffered brake failure and caused a pile-up outside a shopping mall in the Ngamwongwan area. Four people were injured.

In the same week, a six-wheel truck crashed into a fruit stall on the side of a road in the central province of Lop Buri, killing a woman. The police did not disclose any information from the interrogation of the truck driver to the public.
