Pisan, who serves as an inspector at Lamae Police Station, officially sent his request to the Chumphon Provincial Police Commander. The request, documented in a letter dated December 13, outlines his desire not to be promoted in the upcoming annual police appointment cycle of 2024.

The decision was prompted by a directive from the Chumphon Provincial Police Office, which had requested officers to prepare performance reports for consideration in this annual promotion cycle.

The letter, a noteworthy deviation from the norm, expresses Pisan’s reasoning behind his choice. He acknowledges his current position at the bottom of the seniority list and admits that his capabilities and suitability are not yet sufficient for a successful promotion. Furthermore, he cites his approaching retirement as a factor influencing his decision.

Pisan shares a poignant reflection with a quote from the revered Buddhist monk Buddhadasa Bhikkhu.

“People today strive for what they do not have, and in the end, everyone receives the same thing: nothing.”

He also references a Buddhist proverb.

“Underneath youth, old age is hidden. Beneath fulfillment (happiness), disappointment (suffering) is concealed.”

KhaoSod revealed the opening paragraph of Pisan’s letter.

“I, Pisan, as an inspector, do not wish to be promoted to a higher level due to my position being at the tail end of the seniority list. My suitability and capabilities are not adequate for success, coupled with impending retirement in 2024.”

The decision attracted significant attention within the police community and beyond, as it challenges the conventional pursuit of career advancement.

In a profession often driven by hierarchical progression, Pisan’s stance serves as a philosophical reminder of the broader values and purposes that may influence personal and professional decisions, reported KhaoSod.
