Lottery luck: Number 703 sparks lottery frenzy in Phayao
Residents of Ban San Pa Nat in Dok Kham Tai district, Phayao province participated in the annual ritual to honour the spirit of Chao Pho Ong Dam today.
They gathered to perform traditional rites and offered various items including flowers, incense, and food. This cultural event, held on the 13th day of the waning moon in the fourth month, is a longstanding tradition for the community.
During the ceremony, the medium of Chao Pho Ong Dam lit an incense stick for divination. Once the incense was burnt, the number 703 became visible, drawing the attention of attendees who eagerly noted them down. Many residents believed these numbers to be auspicious and captured them on their mobile phones, hoping to try their luck in the upcoming lottery.
As the news of the numbers spread, a lottery vendor arrived at the site. The crowd quickly gathered to purchase tickets featuring the number 703, and the tickets sold out swiftly. The excitement was palpable as locals anticipated a potential win based on their traditional beliefs.
In similar news, a pregnant woman gave birth in an emergency vehicle during the Chinese New Year celebrations, an event which also attracted attention to auspicious numbers. Additionally, a well-known fortune teller, Mae Nam Nueng, suggested that this year would bring significant luck, sharing her own set of numbers for the February 1 lottery draw, reported KhaoSod.
Many Thais interpret dreams as signs of winning numbers. Seeing animals, spirits, or lucky figures in dreams can influence number choices.
Worshippers seek blessings from monks, spirit houses, or famous shrines (e.g., Wat Phra That Phanom or the Erawan Shrine). Some rub tree bark, use incense sticks or ask fortune tellers for numbers. If a well-known celebrity, monk, or government official gets a new car, many people rush to buy lottery tickets with their licence plate number.
