An honest Thai couple discovered a bag with 100,000 baht inside in front of a shopping mall in the central province of Ratchaburi and notified the police so they can search for its owner.

Eighteen year old Kittisak “Zen” Thaweechokhirun, and his 18 year old girlfriend, Potchathawat “Mali” Sabumuang, last night reported the cash-filled bag they found at a shopping mall to officers at Meaung Ratchaburi Police Station.

Mali told police that they arrived at the shopping mall at 2.30pm to watch a movie. After the movie date, they went to the shopping mall’s food court and spotted the bag on a chair.

Mali notified a shopping mall staff member who opened the bag and discovered the large sum of money inside. The mall made an announcement asking for the owner of the bag to come forward, but nobody claimed it.

The couple waited at the shopping mall until 5.30pm in the hope that the owner would come back for the bag, but nobody did. So, they reported it to the police. Officers then rushed to the mall to pick up the bag.

Mali revealed the reason why she did not take the money. She said…

“That money is not mine. Its owner must be in trouble now. My parents always taught me not to take things that do not belong to me. I hope others will do the same.”

Officers confirmed that the bag contained 100,000 baht and stated that they would keep the bag in safekeeping until its rightful owner was identified.

Another similar heartwarming story was reported three days ago. A motorcycle taxi rider, Akkadate “Toey” Jittayasothorn, in Nonthaburi province near Bangkok, found cash worth 100,000 baht on the road and returned it to the owner. Toey revealed during the interview with the media that…

“I am not rich but I do not have a difficult life. She might have withdrawn the money from the bank for some important matter. If she lost it, she could have been in trouble.”

Additionally, a week ago, another motorcycle taxi rider in Pattaya, Nonglak Prakobsap, returned 13,700 baht in cash to a foreigner. In February, a driver of a baht bus in Pattaya returned a lost bag containing 4,000 euros (150,000 baht) to a Finnish tourist.
