Locals were shocked to discover the dead body of an American man floating in the Chao Phraya River in Samut Prakarn province near Bangkok. The cause of his death is under investigation.

A 34 year old Thai man named Noppadon Charnnarongkun reported his shocking discovery at Phra Padaeng Police Station yesterday, November 6. Noppadon explained that he was working at the dock of the Sub Staporn company on Soi Phetchahueng 21 in Phra Padaeng district of Samut Prakarn when he noticed the body.

Police and rescuers from the Poh Teck Tung Foundation arrived at the scene and discovered that the dead man was a foreigner. The man was wearing a black T-shirt, long black trousers and trainers.

Due to the company’s rules and conditions at the dock, rescuers were unable to recover the body there. They had to drag the body to the Bang Kajao Nork temple dock and retrieve it.

Officers found a small bottle of medicine, a hair band, a watch and a passport in his trousers. The foreigner was identified as 62 year old American Marty Lynn Davis. There were no visible wounds on his body. The body is undergoing an autopsy at the Police General Hospital to determine the cause of death.

Police questioned locals in the area and cooperated with nearby police stations but found no reports of missing persons or boating accidents.

Officers would also report the death to the embassy so they can contact the family and relatives of the deceased.

Another major incident on the Chao Phraya was reported in February last year when the body of a missing Thai actress, Nida “Tangmo” Patcharaveerapong, was found in the river. The cause of her death remains a mystery. She was suspected of accidentally falling into the river while on a boat, but some believe she was murdered.
