DDC reveals Thailand recorded its eighth monkeypox case

Thailand recorded yet another monkeypox case today the Department of Disease Control Department (DDC) revealed. It takes the kingdom’s total cases up to eight.

DDC Director General Dr Opas Karnkawinpong reported the latest case is a 23 year old Thai man who returned to Thailand from Qatar this week.

Dr Opas revealed the Thai man had developed the usual monkeypox signs before he arrived in Bangkok from Qatar on Tuesday: a fever, headache, rashes and blisters on his body.

He met two friends when he arrived in the capital, entered the room of one friend, leaving his luggage with another, before eating dinner together.

The man visited the Bamrasnaradura Infectious Diseases Institute for tests and specimens were sent to the institute, and the Department of Medical Sciences, both recorded positive for monkeypox.

Thailand’s first monkeypox case was a 27 year old Nigerian man in Phuket, the second case was a Thai man in Bangkok, the third case was found in a German tourist in Phuket, and the fourth in a Thai woman in Samut Prakan.

Thailand’s fifth case of monkeypox was confirmed in a rather similar story. The patient was a 25 year old Thai woman who was thought to have started displaying symptoms in Dubai before travelling to Thailand.

A 21 year old woman in Thailand’s northeast province of Maha Sarakham became the kingdom’s sixth confirmed monkeypox patient. The woman says her symptoms started while she was in Qatar for work. A 37 year old Thai woman in Bangkok was the nation’s seventh victim.

Some 54,709 monkeypox cases have been confirmed worldwide.
