Police yesterday, February 19, arrested a Burmese man for killing a Thai woman and abandoning her body in a roadside forest in the central province of Samut Sakhon, allegedly because she refused to have sex with him a second time.

A motorcycle taxi rider came across an overturned motorcycle on Ban Phaeo-Pratone Road and stopped to investigate. He then spotted a Burmese man, later identified as 23 year old Aung Zin Myo, lying on the ground in the roadside forest.

The taxi rider called a rescue team to the scene, believing the man was injured in a motorcycle accident. Aung Zin Myo, who was allegedly drunk and unable to communicate in Thai, appeared disoriented.

While assisting the man, rescuers discovered the body of a woman, identified as 44 year old Nui, lying face-up near where Aung Zin Myo was found.

Nui’s shirt was pulled up, revealing her bra, while her shorts and underwear were pulled down. She had a bite mark on her left leg and evidence of strangulation on her neck. Rescuers immediately contacted officers from Ban Phaeo Police Station.

Conflicting information

Aung Zin Myo, the prime suspect, told police he and Nui arrived at the scene together on his motorcycle. He claimed they met at a karaoke bar, where he offered her 1,500 baht for sexual services.

According to the suspect, they initially engaged in sexual activity at a hotel before he offered to take her home on his motorcycle. However, when they arrived at the spot where they were found, he allegedly asked Nui for sex a second time. Nui refused and slapped him, making him angry and, as a consequence, he strangled her.

Aung Zin Myo claimed he did not realise that Nui had died from the strangulation, believing she had only lost consciousness. He said he then lay on the ground near her due to intoxication and sleepiness. He did not clarify whether he raped Nui after the attack.

However, the suspect’s account conflicted with the statement of a truck driver who told police he saw Nui walking alone along the road at night while driving past the area. Upon hearing about the discovery of the body, the driver returned to the scene and confirmed it was the same woman he had seen earlier.

Police expressed doubt over Aung Zin Myo’s version of events and said they would conduct further investigations to determine the true motive for the murder.
