Phuket’s nightlife. Yes, bars and clubs are still open | VIDEO

There was the original Covid-19 outbreak and lockdowns back in April and May in 2020, then again just before Christmas and New Year when the new clusters emerged in Samut Sakhon and the eastern coastal provinces, Patong’s nightlife was quiet enough, almost non-existent.
Now when the restrictions are lifted, Nimz will take you through Phuket’s famous nightlife spot Bangla Road, Patong Beach and Phuket Town. It’s quiet, but there are still clubs open and operating and ready to welcome you.

Phuket Thai food treats you need to try | VIDEO

Nimz, our new Thaiger Vlogger takes you on a tour of some uniquely Phuket foods, although you may find them in other provinces these days as well. A lot of southern Thai food can be very spicy and features a lot of seafood, but Nimz went for the ‘less’ spicy (mai phet) options.
Tell us about your favourite Thai treats and if you’d tried something special in Phuket.

In search of Cat & Dog Cafés in Phuket Town | VIDEO

Nimz, our Thaiger Vlogger takes you on a weekend tour of Phuket Town, in search of cat and dog cafés. Stroke the cats, tickle the cat’s tummy, pat the cats, take selfies with the cats. Whilst Phuket has a number of registered cat and dog cafés, only one appeared to open during Nimz’s search through the streets of Phuket Town, the main commercial capital of the island (on the opposite side of the island to Patong).
And. yes, they also serve up some great food too.

I once had a very scary encounter with a ladyboy. it really put the willies up me.
friend of mine went on a date with one and said it made his whole week… or at least I think thats what he said. apparently they met in a bar, he asked her if he could bum a fag off her and she offered to push his stool in.

Good segment. Notice that none of the three Thai presenters believe the Covid infection numbers in Thailand.

Most intersting questions re. Lady boys to Thais. Firstly your questioning interesting as it was wreaked of the very western culture (read discomfort) the cringe factor in asking. That is fascinating in itself showing the inherit bias (judgments) from the. Perspective from which it was asked. That showed a number of times from your good self. Sure I know you will say but no i was just representing the Western view, yes we know and you did it well, you are after all from the Western culture. The answers from the Thais were equally interstesting. Firstly my advice is if you want to open this up to serious discussion they should disclose their sexual orientation as perhaps should you. On that note I am straight. Their views were typical I might say. They are seemingly most open. But their answers did not disclose why. There is a much wider acceptance in Thai society of gender differences but you did not get to the why? You will need to go far deeper in to Thai culture Buddhist philosophy to get to the real reason. Great question to ask though and nice hear what all had to say Thank you Ray

Pull your head in you righteous sod, it’s people like you that are stirring the pot of Political Correctness to a point of sterilisation

I do mind lady boys if they behave themselves in a bar, but they never do.
They bully the girls out of the way, always make sure they present the bill and therefor pick up the tip. Plonk themselves down in front of the customers even though they are not wanted.
If a lady boy is in a bar you will know it. The big mouth is the lady boy!
And if one lady boy is hired in a bar the next week all his pals are hired in the bar.
The bar then loses most of their custom. If I see a lady boy in a bar I will not go in.
What does your lady boy think about these comments?

Beer enjoys having ladyboy friends so that she looks better in comparison. Same reason why american chicks always have a fat/ugly friend to go out with

My friend is a teacher in Thailand and he says he likes to have a lady boy in the class because they control all the other students if they say quiet the class is quiet

Good point. Yes, I have experienced something similar to that a few times in class, but they were front-row, A-student, openly gay men, not ladyboys.

yeah, the one in my class is always quick to put his hand up… which can be quite painful sometimes

The girls were very conservative on saying anything bad against the government as you know they have to be careful what they say so not proper true answers you can see its so awkward for them to give you true answers this is a ok idea to interview them but it’s only partly true answers more like a love in than an in depth interview

Agreed. I don’t know really if what is being said is true or not. It’s not the culture here to be open and honest with how one really feels. It’s the same reason most here don’t believe the COVID-19 numbers but all go along with it.

100% fact!
Furthermore, I liked the girl on the left. Her English is very good and she is clever in her answers.

I have really been enjoying this new series. I have been living and working as a teacher here in Thailand for 2 and half years now after coming here for a 3 month retreat and falling in love with the Thai people and culture. I am still learning about the culture though and it is very hard sometimes because being in Saraburi I have not met many friends who can speak English and give me true insight into Thai culture and how the average Thai thinks about things. Since moving here I have been following the Thaiger for my news and I appreciate the effort you put into it.

Thanks for this series. Very informative. Can you please ask your panel of young people some questions regarding religion in Thailand, and how it relates to everyday life.

I think it naive to think that your staff would be truthfully forth-coming about the student protest given the draconian response by the government to recent rallies.

Yeah, by no means a cross section of Thai society. Perhaps these stories should be called “Ask Well-Educated, English-speaking Thais”

Interesting how your 3 staff members so politely and effiictively gave their personal comments towards your proffered questions.
No alarmist or weighted predijustice just open minded opinions which can help to enhance westerners education
