Drug trafficker killed, 300,000 meth pills seized in Chiang Mai

Pha Mueang Task Force yesterday engaged with a group of drug traffickers in Mae Ai district, Chiang Mai province, resulting in one suspect’s death and the seizure of 300,000 methamphetamine pills.
The officials remained unharmed. The incident, yesterday, March 19, at 8.30am, occurred when the patrol team spotted and attempted to search three to five suspicious people carrying modified backpacks in a natural route near Ban Lai Ai, Mueang Ai subdistrict.
The suspects opened fire, leading to a 10-minute gunfight. Upon inspecting the scene, one suspect was found dead, and two backpacks containing methamphetamine pills and a firearm were recovered. Additional forces were deployed to secure the area.

The operation was initiated following intelligence from the Third Army Region’s Ranger Control Command about potential drug trafficking from a neighbouring country.
Consequently, a patrol team from the 3207th Ranger Company was dispatched to monitor and intercept illegal activities leading to the encounter with the suspects.
At 1pm, Major General Kidakorn Chantra, Commander of the Pha Muang Task Force, assigned Colonel Maitree Srisantia, Chief of Staff, to collaborate with relevant agencies to inspect the seized narcotics.
The confiscated drugs were subsequently handed over to Mae Ai Police Station for legal proceedings, reported KhaoSod.
In similar news, police from Provincial Police Region 1, working alongside military forces and the Office of the Narcotics Control Board, arrested two men with 4.4 million methamphetamine pills worth an estimated 90 million baht.
The operation took place at 2pm on March 18 in the Khlong Luang district of Pathum Thani province. Police Lieutenant General Surapol Prembutr, Commissioner of Provincial Police Region 1, along with senior officials, confirmed the arrest of 38 year old Mongkhon and 33 year old Pongpat.
The operation resulted in the seizure of 4.4 million methamphetamine pills, two pickup trucks, a white Isuzu with the registration บม 5194 Yasothon and a grey Toyota Vigo with the registration 1กฉ 6443 Bangkok, as well as firearms, including a 9mm pistol loaded with 15 rounds and a .32 calibre revolver with six rounds of ammunition.
