Transgender fortune teller denies defrauding, sexually assaulting boy

A transgender fortune teller in Bangkok denied scamming a 16 year old boy out of 500,000 baht and also rejected claims of sexually assaulting him. She insisted the teen voluntarily gave her around 200,000 baht and nothing more.
A Thai mother accompanied her teenage son to meet the well-known lawyer, Ronnarong Kaewphet, to spread a warning to the public. The pair accused the transgender fortune teller named Serm of sexually assaulting the boy and swindling more than 500,000 baht from him over the past three years.
The boy told the lawyer that he was stressed about his girlfriend, so a classmate suggested he seek a fortune reading with the transwoman at her premises on Rama II Road. He paid 5,000 baht for the initial reading and was impressed with her perceived skills, leading him to continue visiting her for advice.
According to the boy, he had to pay for her services and numerous amulets she recommended. He sold his mobile phone and computer to fund rituals at her premises. The fortune teller even took him to get a sacred tattoo and instructed him not to tell his parents about it.
The boy stated that he became close to the fortune teller and spoke with her online almost daily. The transwoman then suggested he perform a ritual at her apartment to improve his luck, and he agreed.

At the accommodation, the boy was told to remove his clothes, after which the transgender fortune teller placed gold leaves on various parts of his body, including his genitals.
The boy added that he felt compelled to comply with her instructions because she claimed her body was possessed by a sacred spirit and would often command him in a loud voice, supposedly that of the spirit.
He realised that none of the ceremonies and fortune readings improved his life when his girlfriend asked to break up with him. Subsequently, he isolated himself in his bedroom and developed depression.

The mother explained that she noticed his distress, so she contacted his ex-girlfriend and learned about the fortune teller. Wishing to prevent other teenagers from falling victim to this transwoman, she brought the matter to Ronnarong.

The fortune teller, today, May 6, gave an interview with ThaiRath and denied the sexual assault accusation. She admitted to receiving money from the young boy for fortune reading services, amulets, and rituals, but asserted that the total amount did not reach 500,000 baht.
The transwoman claimed the boy paid her around 200,000 baht. She stated she could not provide the exact figure because she did not keep records.

She also denied sexually assaulting the boy and insisted that she had never placed gold leaves on his penis, only on his chest, palms, and forehead. She maintained that she had been offering fortune readings for over 30 years and had never had a negative reputation.

Ronnarong stated that the transwoman’s actions may constitute violations of the Criminal Law and the Child Protection Act. Police have not yet summoned the fortune teller for questioning, and therefore, no legal charges have been filed at this time.
