According to early 2023 search data from the travel platform Agoda, Pattaya is the most popular destination for Thai families looking for a domestic vacation this year. Hua Hin/Cha-am, and Phuket followed in second and third place.

The full list of the top 10 most searched domestic destinations by families includes: Pattaya, Hua Hin/Cha-Am, Phuket, Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Chon Buri, Khao Yai, Krabi, Rayong, and Ko Samet.

Agoda’s Family Travel Trend Survey, which polled over 14,000 family travellers from 12 markets globally, found that the top three family attractions were: visiting landmarks, spending time at the beach, and enjoying a fun day at theme or amusement parks.

“Families are taking advantage of the school breaks to spend quality time on trips together. In Thailand, we are seeing great interest in beach destinations.”

Peerapol noted that planning vacations with large groups across different age groups and budgets can be tough. He said that Agoda does its best to make booking as simple as possible, Hua Hin Today reported.

Meanwhile, Japan seems to be a popular destination for Thai families travelling abroad. Six Japanese destinations made it to the top 10, with Tokyo taking the top spot, followed by Singapore, Hong Kong, Osaka, Fujikawaguchiko, Taipei, Seoul, Fukuoka, Sapporo, and Kyoto.

Pattaya’s ranking as the most popular vacation spot for Thai families may come as a surprise for some, considering the city’s reputation as Southeast Asia’s sin city. But despite its reputation, Pattaya offers several family-friendly activities.

One family-friendly spot in Pattaya is Ramayana Water Park. With an area of 17,000 square metres, it is the largest waterpark in Thailand. And, it has earned bragging rights as the number-one waterpark in Asia.

A beautiful scenic site for families to visit in Pattaya is the Sanctuary of Truth. This large wooden structure covers more than two rai of land.

Families can marvel at art at Art in Paradise, the largest 3D art museum in the world and the first in Thailand.
