A 39 year old woman wanted on two arrest warrants for fraud and computer crimes was arrested by police while visiting her husband, who is currently recovering in a hospital after being shot during a standoff with police.

At around 4pm yesterday, December 2, Police Lieutenant Colonel Kornpong Sukwisit, Deputy Commander of the Investigation Division, along with the investigative team from Bang Lamung Police Station, executed an arrest warrant at Bang Lamung Hospital.

The woman, Somporn (surname withheld), was wanted for her involvement in a series of fraudulent activities, including impersonating others and making false entries into computer systems to deceive the public.

Somporn’s arrest comes after a related incident on November 29, where her husband, Prateep (surname withheld), was shot by police during a raid on a slum village to arrest a drug dealer. During the chaotic confrontation, Prateep threatened officers with a knife, prompting Police Lieutenant Colonel Saman Boongkaew to open fire, injuring him seriously.

While Prateep was rushed to the hospital for treatment, it was later discovered that Somporn had fled the scene during the chaos, leaving her injured husband behind. Her behaviour raised suspicions, prompting investigators to dig deeper into her background.

The investigation revealed that she had two outstanding warrants for charges of fraud, including one for using false information to defraud the public and manipulate computer systems.

Police intelligence indicated that Somporn was planning to visit her husband at the hospital, where he was being treated for his gunshot wounds. Officers arrived at Bang Lamung Hospital and waited for her to appear.
