Thai cyanide serial killer: Big Joke hands over case reports
Deputy national police chief Surachate “Big Joke” Hakparn announced today that the case reports against the alleged Thai cyanide serial killer Sararat “Am” Rangsiwuthaporn will be presented to prosecutors this week. Big Joke made the statement during a visit to the Correctional Institution for Women in Bangkok’s Bang Khen area, where Sararat is currently detained.
Sararat is facing additional charges, having already been charged with premeditated murder and forgery in the case of Siriporn “Koy” Khanwong, one of her 15 alleged poisoning victims. Big Joke stated that Sararat faces similar charges in all cases, including premeditated murder, poisoning, forgery, and theft.
The police report on the 15 cases is complete, and Surachate has consulted with prosecutors before finalising them. He emphasised that all charges against Sararat are supported by strong evidence. If found guilty, she could face the death penalty, although the court may reduce this to life imprisonment if she confesses. Until then, she is considered innocent.
Investigation reports on the cases against Sararat’s former husband, Pol. Lt. Col. Withoon Rangsiwuthaporn, and her lawyer, Thanicha Aeksuwannawat, will also be forwarded to the prosecutors this week. Withoon, the former deputy superintendent of Suan Phueng Police Station in Ratchaburi province, has been charged with receiving stolen property and forging and using official documents. Thanicha has been charged with assisting her client in destroying or concealing evidence of a crime, reported Bangkok Post.
Big Joke praised the police investigators handling the cases, acknowledging their hard work and diligence. The 15 cases span seven provinces, including Nakhon Pathom, Samut Sakhon, Kanchanaburi, Phetchaburi, Ratchaburi, Udon Thani, and Mukdahan.
Sararat was arrested on April 25 following a complaint filed by the mother and elder sister of 32 year old Siriporn “Koy” Khanwong, from Kanchanaburi, one of her 15 alleged victims. The majority of the victims were connected to Sararat through private savings schemes and car financing deals. All the deceased were reported to have been with Sararat shortly before their deaths.
