Police have arrested 3 people and issued arrest warrants for 3 others on extortion charges after they allegedly posed immigration police officers in Rayong and visited business owners with migrant staff, asking them for money.

Police say 6 men wearing immigration police uniforms visited business owners in Rayong on September 15. They allegedly asked for money from the businesses with migrant labourers. Using surveillance camera footage, police say the men met at a petrol station on Khao Lam Road in Chon Buri’s Sriracha district before getting into 3 cars and driving off to Rayong. Police say the men met again at the petrol station in the afternoon.

Investigators were able to track down 3 of the suspects and found the immigration police uniforms they allegedly used. The men face charges of impersonating police officers and extortion. They’ve issued arrest warrants for the 3 others allegedly involved.

“From the footage, we have managed to track down and arrest 3 suspects namely Wisanu or Saneh (45), Ekachai or Dum (36) and Ratchanon or Bank (32). We also found a Toyota pickup truck and the police uniforms that they used on that day.”

A 68 year old monk has been found hanged at a temple in the eastern province of Chon Buri, in an apparent suicide. The Pattaya News reports that police and rescue workers were called to a temple in the sub-district of Baan Suan at around 7.30am yesterday. The body of the dead man was found hanging near the monk’s housing quarters.

It’s understood there were no signs of a struggle and, in a letter allegedly written by the monk, he said he wanted to die. Other monks and nuns at the temple say they don’t know why he might have killed himself, adding that he had no problems or health concerns that they were aware of.

His death comes just days after a monk in the north-east of the country died after jumping in front of a speeding train.

A pair of so-called drunk besties, in the Banglamung district of Chon Buri province, apparently turned on each other after midnight yesterday, with both sustaining knife injuries after an altercation. Rescue workers arrived at a rental room in Khao Maikaew to find the 2 injured men.

48 year old Chaiyaphon Kannarat and 42 year old Apinan Kongprem were taken to the hospital for medical assistance. Banglamung police say they found a kitchen knife about 30 centimetres long and a broken stove that hit during the fight.
