Tuesday Covid Update: 19,843 new cases and 235 deaths

19,843 new Covid-19 cases and 235 coronavirus-related deaths were reported today by the Covid-19 Situation Administration. In the latest and most severe wave of the virus in Thailand, the CCSA has reported 767,088 Covid-19 infections. There are currently 211,223 people receiving treatment for the coronavirus.
Out of the new cases, 398 were found in correctional facilities. The latest wave of the virus spread to Thailand’s overcrowded prisons, infecting more than 40,000 inmates over the past several months. Infections at the prisons and detention centres have been reported on a daily basis.
Other updates…
- Bangkok remains the epicentre of infections with more than 150 cluster outbreaks under surveillance, according to the CCSA. More than 50 isolation centres have been set up to house Covid-19 patients with mild to no symptoms.
- More than 57,000 medical professionals, who had already been injected with two doses of Sinovac, received a third “booster” shot of the Pfizer vaccine, which was donated to Thailand from the United States, according to the Thai government’s news bureau. The additional dose of Pfizer is said to boost immunity against the Delta variant of the virus.
