Monday Covid Update: 15,972 new cases and 256 deaths

The Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration reported 15,972 new Covid-19 cases and 256 coronavirus-related deaths today. In the 24-hour period since the last count, the CCSA recorded 17,281 recoveries. Thailand now has 176,137 active Covid-19 cases. In the latest and most severe wave of the virus in Thailand, first recorded on April 1, the CCSA has reported 1,161,200 Covid-19 cases.

Out of the new cases, 280 were found in correctional facilities. More than 40,000 inmates in Thailand’s overcrowded prisons have tested positive for Covid-19 over the past several months.

More information will be reported this afternoon following the CCSA’s press briefing.

Other updates…

  • Disease control measures are easing in “dark red” provinces. Starting Wednesday, the ban on interprovincial public transportation will be lifted, restaurants will be allowed to offer dine-in services, and other businesses will be allowed to reopen.
  • With the easing of disease control restrictions starting Wednesday, the Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand plans to resume domestic flights from “dark red” provinces, according to the Thai government’s news bureau.
