Foreigners rolling up sleeves to clear rubbish from Samui beaches

by Somkiat Raksaman
Popular Lamai beach was covered with garbage, plastic bags and other debris in the wake of the storm.
A hotel operator, Kornpachara Meedet, says today was the second day she had seen foreign tourists helping with the beach clean up. They had come to help after seeing Thais, mostly hotel staff and tourism operators, cleaning up the debris.
“We are all very pleased to see that they want to help us so that we can return to running our businesses as soon as possible,” she said.
Today she saw about 30 foreign tourists of all ages picking up the trash and separating waste from seaweed.
