An irate Thai man who set his car on fire in the northeast Udon Thani province has absolutely no regrets. The man, 58 year old Panya, set fire to his sedan on Sunday after continuing to experience problems with the car’s electrical system and trouble getting the car to start.

The issues really ground Panya’s gears. When he wanted to park the car in his garage and couldn’t start the car for the umpteenth time, he was finally driven to a breaking point.

Panya moved his car to an empty area on his land and set fire to the grass around the car. The flames soon spread to the car and gutted it.

Firefighters arrived on the scene on Ban Phue-Nam Som Road and took around 20 minutes to put out the blaze. While the car and surrounding grass were destroyed, the fire did not spread to any other property. The cost of damages to the car was around 40,000 baht, Channel 7 reported.

But Panya said he had no regrets, adding that he felt satisfied with what he had done.

The deputy chief of Ban Phue Police Station, Pol. Lt. Col. Bamrung Naebchidchai, said that it is not illegal to set one’s property on fire, however, the fire must not spread to neighbour’s houses, or disturb neighbours.

Bamrung recorded the incident and left.

This is not the first incident in Thailand where someone has destroyed their car in a fit of rage.

In September last year, a woman smashed up her Ford Everest with a crowbar in Nakhon Ratchasima, also in the northeast of Thailand. The 42 year old businesswoman, Runghathai, resorted to clambering on her bonnet and smashing her windscreen because of an ongoing feud between her and Ford Thailand which began in March last year. Runghathai says that she drove the new car less than 1,000 kilometres and encountered “loads of problems.”
